Stock Photos for Trending Searches on Pinterest

what to post on social media in April

April’s Pinterest Business report for trending keywords and searches is (unsurprisingly) focused on stay home activities.

Life has changed drastically for so many of us, and brands that can pivot their messaging and are sensitive to that fact will be the ones that continue to build a sense of community through these difficult times.

That’s not to say your blog and social media posts can’t be positive — the opposite is actually true! There’s lots of opportunity to create helpful, inspiring content for your community based on what they’re searching for right now. Especially if that’s your area of expertise!

And even if your specific niche isn’t trending right now, there’s still space to connect with your community around the subjects of health, wellness, food, parenting, and beauty on social media, as you can probably relate to many of these things on a personal level as well.

Pinterest’s report got us thinking about the types of stock photos that you could use to support your own blog post graphics and social media posts on the top trending subjects! We’ve rounded up some image inspiration from the Haute Stock Library and related ideas on the trending Pinterest searches for April below.

The top trending searches on Pinterest and our recommendations for coordinating stock photos from the Haute Stock Membership. These are the top trending search terms and keywords on Pinterest for April 2020 with stock photo recommendations.

Health and Wellness

Pinterest says “we’re seeing activity climb for both physical fitness and mental well-being”.

And with a huge lifestyle shift like this, it’s not at all surprising that people aim to keep their spirits up by moving their bodies and calming their minds.

That’s why searches for at-home-workouts, self-care tips, meditation guides, and mental wellness have increased.

Connect with uplifting imagery:

Choose photos that portray healthy habits (think drinking water, nutritious food, and taking vitamins), getting ready for a work out, prioritizing self-care (i.e. taking a nap, reading a book, running a warm bath), creating a daily routine, practicing meditation, writing/journaling, lighting a scented candle, and other health-at-home activities.

Parenting

Many parents are facing a new reality of having kids at home — all day every day — for several weeks (or possibly months). Naturally, searches for homeschooling tips are up, but people are also looking for fun kids activities and how the heck to get work done with kids at home.

Choose imagery that reflects the life of a parent:

Washing dishes with a little helping hand. Check. Eating ice cream on the kitchen counter. Double check. Craft time. Get ready for glitter in every corner of the house.

Food

With more and more people cooking all their meals at home, Pinterest says searches for easy meal prep, nutritious meals, and bread recipes are on the rise.

Whet appetites with sizzling imagery:

Choose photos that relate to cooking/baking like a grocery trip haul, meal prepping, hands full of flour, measuring cups all over the place, mixing ingredients, following a recipe, etc.

Bonus tip: A nice interior shot of a pretty kitchen will surely spice up your posts!

Beauty and Personal Care

We still want to look and feel good, even if we’re stuck at home. That’s an important part of Trend #1 (Health & Wellness: self-care), but as Pinterest shows, beauty and personal care topics still warrant their own increase in searches.

And since you can’t book a spa treatment or get a blowout at the hairdressers, you have to DIY it (or live vicariously through other people’s DIYs).

Refresh the look of your visuals with imagery:

Photos that include beauty products — like soaps, scrubs, creams, and natural ingredients like honey and cucumber — are essential for these types of posts. You can share your own DIY beauty tips, your personal beauty routine, or write a review of someone else’s suggestions.

This type of imagery also works for personal care, but you can also sprinkle in bathroom photos to add in a lifestyle/interiors element.

With social connection moved almost exclusively online, it's more important than ever to choose photos — whether stock images or custom brand imagery — that reflect and represent your messaging. Ideas are more powerfully relayed when both the text and imagery connects. Remember, this is the time to create relatable content, cultivate relationships, and connect with your audience online.
